SPENCER SAVINGS BANK SUPPORTS ST. PETER’S HAVEN WITH FOOD COLLECTION

ELMWOOD PARK, NJ (June 30, 2008
) – Spencer Savings Bank, headquartered in Elmwood Park, today announced that it has collected more than ten bags of non-perishable food items  in both of its Clifton branches during June in order to support St. Peter’s Haven Food Pantry in Clifton.  St. Peter's Haven serves the needs of families displaced due to fire, flood or financial hardship.

Spencer set up collection boxes in both Clifton branches, where both customers and employees could drop off donated food items.  With the sluggish economy, the Food Pantry has had an even greater need to help those that need it the most. With the high prices of food and gas, it means really tough times for some local residents.

The Haven’s Community Pantry is just one of the steps that the organization takes to aid low-income individuals and families in the Clifton area.  They also provide nutritional support as needed.  The Pantry is open three mornings a week, staffed with the help of volunteers from St. Peter's Church, the community and other organizations.  The food pantry now serves more than 500 community members monthly, which is equivalent to more than 54,000 meals per year.
