SPENCER SAVINGS BANK DONATES TO THE
NEW JERSEY BANKERS EDUCATION FOUNDATION
ELMWOOD PARK, NJ (May 6, 2009) – Spencer Savings Bank, headquartered in Elmwood Park, recently announced that it has donated $1,000 to the New Jersey Bankers Education Foundation Inc. The money will be used towards scholarships for eligible dependents of U.S. Service members, with a connection to New Jersey, who have given their lives or have been disabled in Afghanistan and Iraq.
“These funds will be used to help make the education of these military dependants more affordable and help ease their financial struggle,” said José B. Guerrero, President, Chairman and CEO of Spencer Savings Bank. “Scholarships are a significant part of the Bank’s community involvement and we are especially proud to help out military families for all that they do for our country.”
The New Jersey Bankers Education Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization that was formed by the Board of Governors of New Jersey League of Community Bankers (now, the New Jersey Bankers Association) in 2005. The Board was inspired by the significant work and sacrifices of United States military personnel throughout the world, particularly in the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts. The Board wanted to do something to help dependents of service members that gave their lives or became permanently disabled in these conflicts and, accordingly, formed the Foundation to provide scholarships.
