"SPENCER’S MONSTERS VS. ALIENS" ARE THE TOP FUNDRAISING TEAM FOR THE 2009 RELAY FOR LIFE

ELMWOOD PARK, NJ (June 22, 2009) – Spencer Savings Bank, headquartered in Elmwood Park, was one of the major event sponsors of the 2009 Relay for Life of Garfield and Lodi. The event took place on June 13th at the 20th Century Park in Garfield. Keeping with the theme "Lights, Camera, Take Action," the Bank’s team "Monsters vs. Aliens" made up of more than 50 employees and their family members helped to raise $12,000. Spencer Savings Bank was the top fundraising team for the second consecutive year.

Relay for Life is about celebrating, remembering and fighting back against cancer. This year marked The American Cancer Society’s commemorative 25th anniversary. During the event, more than 20 teams of movie themed participants gathered together and took turns walking laps around the athletic track. Each team had to keep at least one member on the track at all times during the twelve hours.

"Spencer Savings Bank is very proud to be a part of the Relay for Life program for the fourth consecutive year," said José B. Guerrero, President and CEO of Spencer Savings. "It is very important to the Bank to give back to our community. Being able to help families affected by this life threatening disease is a true honor."
