Protect Yourself From Scammers!
The banking industry has seen an increase in fraud attempts targeting customers. Spencer will never request your one-time passcode/security code, online banking username, password, PIN via text, email, or phone, nor request that you establish an account at another bank to secure your account balances.

If you receive such a request, do not respond or provide any information. Instead, contact our Customer Service Center immediately at 1-800-363-8115, regardless of the message channel.

Fraud Center

At Spencer, safeguarding your account information is our top priority.

Phishing and Spoofing

Phishing and Spoofing

Fraudsters may pose as a financial institution to trick you into sharing sensitive information such as login credentials, PINs, or account information. Attempts may include phone calls, texts, or emails. Advanced technology may be used such as caller ID spoofing (appearing as call from Spencer Savings Bank) or AI voice technology (voice cloning). Remember, a Spencer representative will not call, text or email you requesting personally sensitive information or direct you to establish an account(s) at another bank.

Check Fraud

Check Fraud

Criminals may steal checks from mailboxes to alter them, create counterfeit versions or to manipulate digital images. Best practices include using a permanent black ink pen when writing checks, filling in all fields completely, drawing lines through any unused space on the payee and amount lines and avoiding including any sensitive information (social security number, account number) in the memo line. For the strongest security, consider using Spencer Online Banking and Bill Pay rather than paper checks.

Zelle® Fraud

Zelle® Fraud

Scammers may attempt to trick you into sending them money through Zelle, knowing it’s difficult to recover. They might pose as your bank’s fraud prevention department, ask for your one-time passcodes, pressure you to send money quickly or request transfers to unfamiliar recipients. Do not respond to unsolicited requests and only send money to people you know and trust. Beware of “urgent deadlines” and never share verification codes. Treat Zelle the same way you would treat cash.

Ways To Help Protect Yourself From Fraud:

Multi-Factor Authentication & Biometric Login

Add an extra layer of protection. Secure your mobile banking login with Face ID technology and two-factor authentication for new or unknown devices.

Debit Card Management

Stay informed and in control of your personal debit card(s) with Card Management, available within the Bank’s online banking platform. Your choice – you can set up transaction and balance alerts, monitor your account activity with personalized alert notifications, and even keep your card turned off until you are ready to make a purchase. Spencer debit and credit cards include RFID technology for safer contactless transactions. You can also instantly freeze your card instantly through your Spencer app if you detect any fraud.

Safety and Security

Maintain the most up-to-date security software, web browser, operating system, and anti-virus software (if available) to protect your computer, smart phone or other network device. When visiting the Spencer website or mobile app, refrain from connecting to a public Wi-Fi network where cybercriminals can access your sensitive financial data.

Report Fraud

If you receive a suspicious text, email, or call, do not provide any information and call our Customer Service Center immediately at 1-800-363-8115. Our team is available from Monday through Friday 8am – 8pm, and on Saturday, from 8am – 2pm.
