What are your thoughts about the bank merger with Wawel Bank?

We’re all very excited about the upcoming merger with Wawel Bank. The two banks fit well together, as we both share the same community banking philosophy that values strong banking relationships, reinvesting back into the Garfield community and exemplary customer service. Wawel customers will benefit from being part of a larger financial institution with more diversified product offerings and a continued focus on technology solutions. We look forward to welcoming its employees and clients to the Spencer family.

How did the bank participate in the celebration of Garfield’s 100th Anniversary?

Last year marked a very special milestone for the City of Garfield. Spencer was proud to partner with the city and be a part of it all. The bank was the main sponsor of all the yearlong festivities and was also part of the planning committee where countless hours were spent as volunteers. Employees also attended the various yearlong events that took place and were really able to connect with the community. It was a great collaboration and it ended up being a wonderful celebration for the community.

Any particular highlights that stand out?

The bank was able to end the year on a high note by making a sizeable donation to the Garfield VFW. This donation will bring them closer to achieving their goal of purchasing a van for the veterans. The van will be used to help transport the veterans, who are unable to drive due to various medical conditions, to doctor’s appointments. It is an honor for Spencer to be able to provide this support to those who have sacrificed so much for our country. Everyone in the Garfield community wants to empower and support them. For us, it was a great way to end the celebration and also spread some joy during the holiday season.

Are there any community initiatives being planned in Garfield for early 2018?

We are looking forward to the Garfield YMCA’s “Chuckles for Charity” Comedy Night in February. Many events will be taking place in early 2018 to support the Garfield Pulaski Association and our very own Thomas J. Duch, Esq., Garfield City Manager, who will be the Grand Marshal in the parade this year. Spencer will also be partnering with the Garfield Boys and Girls Club, Rotary Club and VFW to support their fundraising efforts. A very special highlight for me will be the Freddie Porter Beefsteak in May, where I am being honored as the “Woman of the Year.”

What do you love most about the Garfield community?

Over the years, I have developed many deep relationships with customers, businesses and local organizations. The community has become an extension of my family. I am proud to be connected to the City of Champions, which has become my second home. The people of this great city are so invested in making it a good place to live and work. Everyone from city officials, to the families that reside here, to the businesses that help the community prosper and grow – the commitment to Garfield is strong and that is always inspiring to see. It motivates me to bring my absolute best each day for this community. I truly look forward to continuing my service to the Garfield community for many years to come.
